Prof. Gambari’s day started with a meeting with Chief of Administrative Control Authority, Minister Mohamed Erfan. In the meeting the Panel Vice-chair detailed the process of the APRM in Egypt which will included the production of the Country Self-assessment report and the eventual review report. He was impressed by the extensive role and mandate granted to this organization by the Constitution of the country to prevent, fight and prosecute cases of corruption in both the public and private sectors in Egypt. He encouraged this entity to play its role of being a watchdog, all the more during the APRM review process in the country so as to ensure thoroughness of the process.
He proceeded to a meeting with the National Human Rights Council where he outlined the APRM Mandate and the critical role the Council should play ensuring the credibility of the APRM process in Egypt.

The meeting was proceeded by a courtesy call to H.E The Grand Imam. Ahmed El Tayeb of El-Azhar El-Sahrief. Where Prof. Gambari covered a wide-range of issues with great emphasis on the critical and central role that Faith Based Organisations should play in the important work of promoting good governance in a country. Prof. Gambari further outlined how the process of a country review, the steps that have to be undertaken, the meaning and potential impact of a successful review and the manner of its follow-up, and the timeframe within which this can be completed.

He later concluded his day with a visit to the Deputy of his holiness Pope of Alexandria and Petrarch of the St. Mark, Bishop Daniel. In the meeting Prof. Gambari reiterated the importance of the role played by the clergy in ensuring the integrity of the APRM Process.

The Support Mission is also providing technical training of the electronic questionnaire to the Technical Research Institutions(TRIs). The Mission continues until 06 March.
