APRM Liberia Country Review Mission Kick Off Meeting
Monrovia, 05 April, 2017- The Liberia Country Review Process officially kicked off with a two-day in-country planning and induction meeting, held in the Liberian Capital Town, Monrovia.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Minister of Budget and Development Planning from the Ministry of Finance, Hon. Tanneh Brunson, welcomed the Review Team and highlighted that “Liberia is opening the doors to all its 15 subdivisions of government and is ready to have frank and open engagements with the team”. She further mentioned that it is all systems go and that the people of Liberia are also eager to be part of this historical mission to the Western African country.
The review mission team is led by Madam Bridget Mabandla and is comprised of Representatives from the APRM Continental Secretariat, the Liberia National Secretariat team, Representatives from the Liberian Technical Research Institutions (TRIs) and members of the APRM Strategic Partners.
The team also undertook a rigorous process of identifying and sampling counties for the review and has developed a plan to guide the Review Process. Engagement meetings with the leadership of executive, judiciary and legislature will commence on 06 April 2017.
Liberia acceded to the APRM in January 2011.

A Specialized Agency of the African Union (AU), the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) was initiated in 2002 and established in 2003 by the African Union in the framework of the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).
The purpose of APRM is to facilitate the adoption of policies, principles and practices that contribute to political and economic stability and growth, additionally to leading sustainable development. The four thematic areas of APRM are composed of:
• Democracy and Good Political Governance
• Economic Governance and Management
• Corporate Governance
• Socio-Economic Development
In 2018, APRM will be celebrating its 15th anniversary at the UN headquarters and further discuss ways and means to improve the continent’s sustainable growth and socio-economic development.
